Happy Thursday!

Dear Parents,
We are off to another great week in Room 205 at SVA!  Picture day went very well and pictures should be returned to those who ordered in a few weeks.  There are a few things I would like to share with you for this week:

  • Scholastic Book order forms will be coming home today.  If you would like to order, you may send in the paper form, or you can access my page on the Scholastic website at https://clubs2.scholastic.com where you can sign up for a parent account.  My classroom activation code is : GW6HR.  The online ordering is VERY user friendly and your child earns extra free gifts if the parent orders this way.  We are in desperate need of new books for our classroom and appreciate any orders!  We earn bonus points towards FREE books with each dollar spent!  Orders will be due on Friday September 18th.  Thank you!
  • Flyers went home yesterday explaining in detail the kick off to the Fall Festival Basket raffle items.  The Fall Festival will take place on Saturday October 3rd.  Our basket is titled "Breakfast Time.  Please see the form sent home or the attachment to this email.  Again, we greatly appreciate your support in making this a phenomenal fundraising event for our school!  I am also hoping for a parent volunteer to assemble and decorate our basket :)
  • Our first field trip to the farm will be taking place in the 2nd or 3rd week in October.  I am waiting on final confirmation from Kinman Farms in Burlington, and will share the date with you as soon as I can.  We will be asking for parent chaperones who are on the approved chaperone list.  If you are unsure, or would like to be added to the list, please contact the front office.
  • The 2nd Grade students at SVA will be taking Reading, Math and Language Arts MAP testing over the next two weeks.  Results will be shared with parents at Mid-Term Report time.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Have a great weekend!

Welcome to Second Grade!

Welcome everyone to my classroom webpage!  This is where I will create weekly posts to keep parents updated on important information and where students will be able to access the many games and websites we use on a regular basis.  Please take a moment to read my "About Me" in the introduction section of my blog.

As our first year being Summit View Academy- A STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) school; we have a very exciting opportunity to grow as a community of next generation learners.  I can assure you that as we teachers are trained and lessons are implemented in new ways, I will always keep parents informed.  I too, am a parent of children here at SVA and can assure you that the education and solid development of ALL of our students is my top priority.

Let me tell you about what I have been doing this summer...  First, I once again organized and taught at the Stallion Academy enrichment program here at SVA in June.  I am the Primary Talent Pool Lead Teacher at SVA for grades K-3, and after teaching at NKU's ExploreMore in 2010 as part of my Masters Degree in Gifted and Talented Education, I created the Stallion Academy in 2011 and this was our sixth session.  I spent a six day vacation visiting my family in Michigan, where we did lots of sightseeing and my 2 year old son Isaiah started swimming with out being held!  Then it was onto watching my 11 year old son Isaac's basketball games or taking my 8 year old daughter Isabella to gymnastics, and also teaching my 18 year old stepdaughter Taneil how to drive, and help prepare her for college...ahhh!  Lastly, I was able to spend lots of time at the pool with my family and friends; soaking in the sun and reading for fun!  I LOVE to read and you will find that one of my favorite parts of the day is when we all gather on the carpet for read aloud.  I love to get into character!

I encourage you to take a few minutes to sign up to be a member of my blog; that way you will be instantly notified when there are any updates.    For anyone unaware, there will be two parent informational meetings about our new Summit View Academy STEAM School on August 6th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. OR 5:30-7:30.  Finally, I hope everyone is able to attend our Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday the 13th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Students- .I hope you enjoy the last few weeks of summer break! I encourage you to leave me a message with what YOU have been doing over the summer and I look forward to meeting you soon!
